Summary Description

Under the general supervision of the Parks and Public Works Supervisor or Assistant Public Works or Parks Director, performs manual labor for a variety of maintenance, operational and construction activities related to Public Works / Parks infrastructure, or service delivery.

Employment for Summer Laborer in the Public Works or the Parks Departments is from mid-May through Mid-August.
Routine Job Duties/Responsibilities

Parks Laborers responsibilities: 

  • Assists with park maintenance projects.
  • Repairs and replaces park equipment.
  • Assists with landscaping work in parks and at facilities.
  • Assists and performs janitorial duties in park facilities.
  • Assist maintaining City buildings and property.
  • Assists park staff in arborist work activity in parks and at City facilities.
  • Operates vehicles and assorted hand and power tools.
  • Performs heavy manual labor
  • Assist with custodial responsibilities.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Public Works Laborers responsibilities: 
  • Assists with street maintenance projects
  • Repairs and replaces traffic control devices.
  • Assists with the application of pavement markings.
  • Assists with the maintenance of sanitary and storm sewer systems.
  • Maintains City buildings and property.
  • Assists in the collection of solid waste.
  • Operates vehicles and assorted hand and power tools.
  • Performs heavy manual labor.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Periodic Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Attend safety meetings and seminars as required and promotes safety. Follows all City and department safety policies and procedures. 
Typical Qualifications


  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s License also required
