DESCRIPTION:MOXIE (Member Owners eXchange Information & Experience) is a group of member business Owners/Presidents who meet monthly with Greg Thompson\, ActionCoach\, to discuss issues impacting their businesses. All member Business Owners/Presidents are invited to participate.  Everyone must sign a confidentiality clause.\n\n\n\nThis month we have invited the Executive Director\, Noelle Nelson\, of Avenue of Scholars Des Moines to speak about this new program in the metro to bridge the gap between education and business for students of hope and need.\n\n \nBeginning with the 2022   2023 school year Avenue Scholars will begin providing this comprehensive program in central Iowa starting in the Des Moines Public Schools at East and Roosevelt High Schools with a plan to expand to all Des Moines high schools by 2024.\n\nAvenue Scholars provides comprehensive\, individualized support services to help students identify\, prepare for\, and ultimately enter financially sustaining\, high-demand careers requiring an associate degree or less. Programming begins in the student's junior year of high school and continues uninterrupted through postsecondary training and for six months following career entry. Eligibility is based on financial need (eligibility for free or reduced-price school lunches or a federal Pell Grant)\, interest in pursuing a high-demand career requiring an associate degree or less\, and attendance at an AS partner high school.\nNOELLE NELSON BIO\n\n\n	\n		\n			\n			Noelle Nelson serves as Executive Director of Avenue Scholars Des Moines.  Avenue Scholars was founded in Omaha in 2008 by Walter Scott and Dr. Ken Bird with the mission to bridge the gap between education and business for students of hope and need.  Noelle is leading the expansion of the program in the Des Moines metro\, beginning with East and Roosevelt High Schools in DMPS.\n\n			Noelle spent the past 23 years serving as a teacher\, curriculum coordinator\, administrator\, and most recently\, as Executive Director of Leadership and Learning\, for Des Moines Public Schools.  She is passionate about equity of access for all scholars and has committed her career to removing barriers for our most marginalized groups.
