SUMMARY:Membership Luncheon\, Featuring Michael Wolnerman\, son of last Holocaust survivor in Des Moines
DESCRIPTION:Every month members of the Urbandale Chamber come together to network\, enjoy lunch and listen to a speaker to learn about happenings in Urbandale and around the Greater Des Moines Area.\n\n \n\n"Forgive but don't forget". \n\n\n\nIn 1940\, Holocaust survivor David Wolnerman told one lie to Josef Mengele\, the Nazi nicknamed "The Angel of Death"\, that saved his life. In a different concentration camp\, a female Nazi guard 'took a liking' to Jennie Wolnerman but while on a Nazi death march\, Jennie was caught stealing a loaf of bread. The Nazi guard who caught her told her "If you have the ability to steal from a Nazi guard\, you will make it through this."\n\n\n\nThe two later met in post-war Munich\, Germany\, married and eventually moved to America.\n\n\n\nTheir son\, Michael\, shares their stories of incredible tragedy and triumph. Jennie passed away in January of this year and David is now believed to be the last survivor in Des Moines. They both felt strongly about never wanting future generations to forget the Holocaust\, so join us this month to allow their stories to be continued to be told.\n\n\n\nLocation: Embassy Club West (520 Market St.\, West Des Moines\, IA 50266)\n\nTime: 11:30-1 pm\n\nCost: $20/members $30/nonmembers\n\nThank you to this month's sponsors: Country Inn & Suites - Clive and pcCentral.\n\nDeadline to register is 48 hours before event. Any registration that comes in after this deadline will be put on a waiting list and billed an additional $5 (if space allows).\n\nPrepayment is highly encouraged and appreciated.\n\nReservations not kept will be billed.\n\n\n\nRegistrations must be canceled the day prior to the luncheon by 12 pm in order to receive a credit. If not\, you will still be billed. All cancelations must be made over the phone to ensure staff is aware of your cancelation. Thank you.
