Planned Parenthood of the Heartland is seeking a full-time Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join our Urbandale and Des Moines health centers. This multifaceted position works in both direct patient care and records/reception areas. The CMA will participate in a team approach to patient care and communicate effectively and sensitively with patients from a wide range of backgrounds and ages while serving as a patient advocate.

Job responsibilities include:
  • Performing front desk functions to include telephone, patient scheduling, patient flow and processing mail supplies
  • Work with health center team to meet established productivity standards for center revenue, expense/margin, patient numbers, and quality and customer service
  • Providing contraceptive supplies, medications including injectables, performing venipunctures and managing patients with medical emergencies per Planned Parenthood of the Heartland protocols under direct supervision of a licensed nurse practitioner, physician assistant, physician or registered nurse
  • Inform patients in a non-directive manner about all options available to them in the event of an unintended pregnancy and make a referral for service based on the patient’s needs
  • Perform, record and package routine laboratory tests
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of company policies and procedures and applying these to patient and clinic services
  • Preparing, organizing and maintaining patient medical records
This position is full-time at 40 hours per week. Tentative schedule:  Monday 9:30a-6:00p (alternate Monday 9:00a-6:30p), Tuesday 7:45a-4:15p (alternate Tuesday 7:45a-5:45p), Wednesday 8:15a-5:45p, Thursday 7:45a-3:15p (alternate Thursday 7:45a-5:15p), Friday 7:45a-4:15p (alternate Friday off), and one Saturday per month 9:45a-3:15p.
 
Job qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • A graduate of a training program for Medical Assistants
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance coverage
  • Certification or registration by program accredited through National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) within one year of hire
  • One year work experience in health care, customer service,  or medical office preferred
  • Data entry skills and understanding of business office procedures, plus previous medical or laboratory skills helpful
  • Electronic medical records experience beneficial
  • Spanish/English bilingual preferred (bilingual stipend paid!)
  • Background check required for employment
